Ryan Lee Blu-Ray Commentary

First of all, Mike really outdid himself with the character designs again!  Black Ice looks super cool to me. Is it the glasses?  Is it the gloves?  It's all of it.  I can't get enough of Colonel USA, either, especially in color. The "U" by the collar is clever, and the "A" draws entirely too much attention to the icon's groin, which I think is just fantastic!

Mike wrote this strip, and he had several different lines for Colonel USA to say for that last panel.  I recommended that he use the line you see here, and the reason I like it is because it points to the inherent racism of trying really hard not to be racist.

Colonel USA is so wrapped up in not being racist that he can't bring himself to use Black Ice's name as Black Ice himself would wish!  It's insane, and that's pretty much America in the 21st Century.  These days, I see a lot of folks walking on eggshells, and I think we collectively forgot that the point of all these language gymnastics was to bring people together!

Monster Mike Blu-Ray Commentary

Happy Black Comics Month, everybody! Seriously, though, this strip was written and completed a long time ago and having it publish during Black Comics Month is completely coincidental. That being said, I'm happy with the serendipity.

The design of Black Ice is totally 90's era. The leather jacket with the sleeves rolled up over top of a skin tight unitard. Classic, sir. The driving gloves. The Triangle Glasses. Liefeld is calling his lawyer right now.

A funny aspect of this comic, I think, is the fact that we have yet to show and will likely not show any actual superpowers being demonstrated. I wonder what Black Ice's power looks like?

Full disclosure; just like Col. USA, I was somewhat nervous posting this comic. I wasn't sure what the reaction would be. I'm happy to report that I've yet to receive a single death threat.

Updates to follow.
